Sherwood Foundation Challenge

The Sherwood Foundation and PeterKiewit Foundation based out of Omaha Nebraska have presented a challenge grant to Rock County Community Fund, an affiliate of the Nebraska Community Foundation, providing an opportunity that will help ensure success for our community in the future. For every dollar, up to $200,000. contributed to the fund's unrestricted endowment on or before December 31, 2018, those Foundations will contribute fifty cents.

Our fund was established in 2014 with the help of a philanthropist, Francis Kramer, and his challenge grant of $50,000. With his help, we have already grown our endowment to over $200,000. Now we are embarking on a new challenge that can grow our endowment to over $500,000. It is very exciting for us to thnk about what we can accomplish for Rock County with this permanent asset. This "savings account" will produce interest that will be granted in community projects. We were very excited to give our first grant this fall to support the new fire hall building in Newport Nebraska. As our fund builds, we will continue to give grants for worthy projects that will support the community in its effort to attract young families and to improve the quality of life for those who call Rock County home.

With the Sherwood and Keiwit match, your donation to Rock County can make an even bigger impact. Please consider a donation as you are looking at your year-end giving. Gifts of cash are a simple way to give and create immediate impact, but there are many avenues available. There are beneficial tax benefits for gifts of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and real property that have gone up in value. Figts of life insurance, by will or trust or from retirement plans are welcome as well. If any of these ideas, or something else interest you, let us know and we can provide more information. All gifts are tax deductible.
